Dr Hoenig comments on Restylane and Perlane
"Q: When Melanie Griffith joins Chicago
in the role of Roxie Hart, she'll be sharing the Great White
Way with her husband, Antonio Banderas, now in Nine. Will
we see her blowing him kisses from her collagen-puffed lips? - Mary
Vasquez, San Diego, Calif.
A: Probably not. Cosmetic surgeons tell us
collagen is on the way out. "It's being replaced by hyluronic
acid, marketed as Perlane and Restylane, which causes fewer allergic
reactions and lasts much longer," says Dr.
Jonathan Hoenig. The FDA won't say when it plans to approve
these products. They've been used legally in other countries for
years and secretly by some US physicians eager to please their demanding
patients. Griffith, 45, has never admitted using collagen."
Considered an expert in facial cosmetic and reconstructive
surgery, Dr Hoenig has completed three separate fellowships to ensure
that he is qualified to offer the most advanced techniques in facial
surgery: cosmetic and dermatologic surgery, oculo-facial cosmetic
surgery, and oculoplastic surgery. He is one of the few cosmetic
surgeons who is a diplomat of the American Society of Ophthalmic
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) and the American Board
of Cosmetic Surgery, as well as board certified by the American
Board of Ophthalmology.
