 Botox
rival now available
Our first shipment of Dysport has
arrived at Dr. Hoenig's office.
The introductory price for Dysport
is $300 for 75 units (comparable
to $375 for 25 units of Botox).
Both Dysport and Botox are FDA
approved for treatment of glabella
lines (wrinkles between the eyebrows)
and both are made from botulinum toxin
type A, but there are potentially
some key differences.
Some studies indicate that Dysport
may begin working sooner than Botox
Cosmetic, in as soon as 1-2
days compared to 3-7 days for Botox.
Other reports indicate that
Dysport may last longer up to 6 months
or more, compared to 3-4 months on
average for Botox.
It is reported that Dysport diffuses
(spreads) more than Botox. This can
be beneficial when treating larger
areas such as the forehead or underarms
as fewer injections would be required.
In smaller areas, such as around the
eyes, the diffusion may increase the
risk of eyelid ptosis (drooping of
the upper eyelid).
One needs about about 3 times the
number of units of Dysport as Botox
to achieve the same effect so 75 units
of Dysport is equivalent to 25 units
of Botox.
The jury is still out on which
form of botulinum toxin A really does
work sooner, last longer and is more
cost effective. For sure, we expect
that Allergan (makers of Botox Cosmetic)
will introduce some incentives and/or
price reductions to stay competitive
in the market and of course, a little
competition is good for everyone!

from Allergan . In celebration
of 7 years since the FDA approval
of BOTOX

hoping to maintain its market
dominance and is now offering
a special $50

Speaking of Botox, a long time
patient recently brought her friend
in for underarm Botox treatments for
excessive sweating. When he removed
his shirt to apply numbing cream,
Dr Hoenig spotted a suspicious
looking mole. A biopsy was performed
and it was indeed melanoma.
Fortunately, due to Dr Hoenig's
vigilance, it was found very early
and he has an excellent prognosis.
If you have any new, enlarging, itching,
bleeding, black, or irregular
looking moles, be sure to have Dr
Hoenig or your dermatologist check
it out.
